BGS US recently welcomed the ASCM Pittsburgh Chapter to our Imperial, Pennsylvania facility for an evening focused on manufacturing, supply chain operations, and the role of E-Beam sterilization in the medical device industry.

Hosted by Len Zuba, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at BGS US, the September 23 event included a presentation and facility tour that gave attendees a closer look at our operations. The 100,000-square-foot facility, operational since mid-2025, uses advanced automation to process truckload quantities of single-use medical devices through E-Beam sterilization.

A highlight of the event was the strong participation from Slippery Rock University students. Their involvement provided an opportunity to connect classroom concepts in supply chain management and manufacturing with the processes, technologies, and operational considerations found in a live production environment.

CONNECTING SUPPLY CHAIN THEORY TO REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS

During the tour, participants saw firsthand how automated E-Beam sterilization fits into the broader medical device supply chain. Sterilization is an important part of the product lifecycle, where factors such as logistics, capacity, process consistency, scheduling, and rapid turnaround time directly influence supply chain velocity and resilience.

Creating Opportunities Through Education

For students preparing to enter the workforce, experiences like this provide valuable exposure to real-world manufacturing environments. For industry professionals, they create opportunities to exchange knowledge, ask technical questions, and discuss the emerging technologies and processes shaping modern supply chains.

We were pleased to host ASCM Pittsburgh and the students from Slippery Rock University and share a closer look at BGS US, our E-Beam capabilities, and the critical role efficient sterilization plays within medical device manufacturing.
