When you think of Pittsburgh, you think of bridges — 446 of them, to be exact. But a few stand out more than the rest. The Three Sisters Bridges — Roberto Clemente, Andy Warhol, and Rachel Carson — are more than just river crossings that connect Downtown with the North Shore of the Allegheny River. They represent Pittsburgh’s history, culture, and spirit of innovation.

At BGS US, we recognize the power of these connections, which is why we have named our new conference rooms after these iconic structures. By taking this action, we hope to create an ongoing spirit of collaboration that brings people and ideas together to achieve progress.

Three Sisters Bridges Connect Past to Present

Spanning the Allegheny River, the Three Sisters Bridges are a testament to Pittsburgh’s past and to the community’s resilience, illustrated by a strong belief in the future. These nearly identical self-anchored suspension bridges were built by the Allegheny County Department of Public Works between 1924 and 1928, pioneering a design that has stood the test of time. The steel used to construct the bridges was manufactured by the American Bridge Company in Ambridge, about 15 miles from our facility. Each bridge honors a Pittsburgh icon who left an indelible mark on the city and beyond:

  • Roberto Clemente Bridge – Named for the legendary Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame baseball player and humanitarian who embodied dedication and excellence on and off the field.
  • Andy Warhol Bridge – A tribute to the groundbreaking artist whose creativity and innovation helped to reshape modern art.
  • Rachel Carson Bridge – Celebrating the environmentalist and author of Silent Spring, whose work laid the foundation of the modern environmental movement.

At BGS US, we are bringing into our workplace the spirit of connection and inspiration that the Three Sisters Bridges give to anyone who drives or walks across them.
